The challenge
Caice was asked by Futurserv Consulting Engineers to propose the most effective way of reducing noise from Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery MVHR systems within a large development of 466 apartments at Angel Gardens in Manchester.
The contemporary development by Moda Living has stunning interiors and unrivalled amenities including BBQ terrace, rooftop sports pitch, state of the art gym, residents’ lounge and 24-hour concierge all included in the rent. Located in the heart of Manchester, it is in the NOMA* district, gateway to the Northern.
*NOMA is an £800 million, 20 acre (8 hectare) redevelopment scheme and is the largest project of its kind in the North West of England and backed by the long-established Co-Operative Group. Caice previously provided attenuators and splitters for One Angel Square, the landmark building, Head Quarters for the Group and centre piece for the whole development in the city centre.
Will Twigg, Sales Manager at Caice said, “it is also by a busy, noisy road and there were strict acoustic criteria to achieve within the apartments themselves to a Noise Rating of NR 25. The available space inside each apartment was limited which meant achieving the target sound levels would be harder to achieve”.
The solution
Following meetings with the engineers, MVHR suppliers and acoustic consultants, it was proposed that Caice Whole House Ventilation Attenuators would be the ideal solution. As these attenuators had been developed by Caice specifically for residential use in restricted spaces. Due to their low height, they can be installed within both celling and floor voids.
They reduce the noise produced by the MVHR systems inside the apartments, minimise the noise from the traffic outside as well as controlling unnecessary crosstalk between rooms, which all helped to reduce noise levels within the apartments to the target required.
